Day 1 Readiness Checklist

What has to work on the first day after closing

Day 1 is the moment of truth of a carve-out: from now on the divested unit is its own company, and every minute of standstill costs money and trust. This checklist summarises what must demonstrably work from an IT perspective on the closing date, drawn from FHC+P project practice.

1 · Ability to work

Every employee can work

2 · Business processes

The business keeps running

3 · Security & operations

Separated securely, operated securely

4 · Organisation

Everyone knows what applies

What does Day 1 readiness mean? +

Day 1 readiness means the divested unit can operate independently on the first day after closing: every employee can sign in and communicate, the core business processes run, security and support are in place, either on its own systems or via contractually agreed transitional services (TSA).

What is the single most important item on the checklist? +

The dress rehearsal. A complete cutover test run before the closing date exposes the gaps no planning round catches: missing special accounts, forgotten interfaces, unclear responsibilities. Going into Day 1 without a dress rehearsal means testing on the open heart.

How long before closing should Day 1 planning start? +

Depending on complexity, 3 to 9 months in advance. Identities, ERP access, and critical interfaces need lead time, and the dress rehearsal needs a date that still leaves time to work off the findings.
